Palladia Companion Guide: Safe Home Handling and Monitoring
Who this guide is for
Owners whose veterinarian has prescribed Palladia for a dog. It does not provide a dose and must be used with the current FDA client sheet and clinic instructions.
Guide summary
Handle intact tablets as a hazardous antineoplastic, record every dose and gastrointestinal or mobility change, complete scheduled exams and laboratory tests, and obey stop-and-call instructions.
Before you start
Review the current client sheet with the prescriber. Disclose all prescriptions, NSAIDs, steroids, preventives, vitamins, herbs and supplements; pregnancy or breeding status; gastrointestinal, liver, kidney or bleeding problems; and any planned surgery. Obtain gloves, secure storage and written waste-cleanup instructions.
Step-by-step guidance
- Give only the exact intact tablet strength and schedule prescribed.
- Confirm the dog swallowed the complete tablet.
- Wash hands and follow label precautions; keep children away from tablets and contaminated waste.
- Log appetite, vomiting, stool, weight, lameness and all doses.
- Attend scheduled examinations, bloodwork and urine or blood-pressure monitoring as directed.
- If a stop sign occurs, withhold and call; do not improvise a restart.
What to monitor
Refusal or reduced food intake, vomiting, diarrhea, black or red stool, bruising, bleeding, weight loss, lameness, weakness, oral or skin changes and any wound or surgery concern. Record timing and severity.
When to call a veterinarian
Follow the FDA client sheet: stop and contact the veterinarian for refusal to eat, vomiting or watery diarrhea especially more than twice in 24 hours, black tarry stool, bright red blood in vomit or stool, unexplained bruising or bleeding, or another concerning change. Seek emergency care for collapse, severe bleeding or breathing difficulty.
